Syria, located in the Middle East, is officially known as the Syrian Arab Republic. Due to government's investment in developing vast irrigation systems to tremendously increase the cultivation of crops, the country that was once a net importer of several agricultural products has now become a supplier of cotton, fruits, vegetables and other foodstuffs. Oil has been the most important source of income for the country since 1974. Minerals include: petroleum, natural gas, phosphates, limestone and salt.
Main industries of the country include: petroleum, textiles, food processing, beverages, tobacco, phosphate rock mining, cement, oil seeds crushing. |
